Flower Vase

3 Ways to Make Your Home Smell Like Spring is in the Air

Flower VaseWhat does spring smell like? It’s fresh and filled with floral touches. It is light, airy and contains the promise of warmer days. Interested in having spring’s sweet aroma permeate your apartment? Then try one of these three ideas.

Herbal Influence

An herbal wreath is relatively easy to make and will add a beautiful fragrance to your home. Simply cut fresh herbs, such as rosemary or thyme, leaving the stems at least eight inches long. Next, use 24-gauge floral wire to bind small bunches of the herbs together. Finally, attach the bunches to a six-inch wreath frame in an attractive fashion.

Flower Power

Of course, one of the best ways to add a fresh spring scent to your apartment is with fragrant flowers. You can go the easy route and just place vases of fresh cut flowers around your home. Or, if you want to be more creative, consider making a fresh flower garland. For this, you will need cut flowers and greenery, such as ivy. Using heavy-gauge floral wire, bind together small bunches of the greenery and flowers. Next, overlap the bundles and tie them together so that they’ll form a long garland. You can drape your garland on your stair railings or even use it as a pretty, scented table runner.

Lovely Lavender

Lavender is a lovely scent that is also said to have a calming effect on people. To add a touch of this magical fragrance to your home, fill a small jar with equal parts of dried lavender buds and baking soda. Next, slowly add approximately 20 to 25 drops of lavender essential oil, shaking the jar after every 3 or 4 drops to mix in the scent. Leave this jar open anywhere you would like the soothing scent of lavender.

Spring is not just a time for fresh scents. It is also the season for new beginnings. Have you been thinking about starting “fresh” in a new home? Then check out our apartments in Suwanee. Our community boasts everything you would expect out of a beautiful apartment community, including a resort-style pool, a fitness center, a car care center and each floor plan is equipped with a washer and dryer. Person Playing With Dog

Celebrating National Pet Day

Person Playing With DogApril 11 is National Pet Day! While most pet lovers agree every day of the year is National Pet Day, there’s actually an official day set aside for pets. The holiday was established in 2006 to help bring awareness to the plight of pets awaiting their forever homes in rescues and shelters. How will you be pampering your pet this year?

Tips for Celebrating Your Pet

  1. Go to the park: Dog owners can take their pups to the park. Let your dog run with their furry pals or just toss the ball around for them to chase.
  2. Make some treats: Nothing says “I love you” like some home baked goods! Bake your pet some homemade treats this year. Typically, the ones you make at home are healthier than store-bought treats, too.
  3. Play a game: Many pets love a good game of chase or fetch. Play with a toy, hide some treats, or play an interactive game that rewards your pet for solving a puzzle.
  4. Belly rubs: Give your dog an extra belly rub or scratch your cat behind their ears a little more! Petting your dog or cat is sure to make them wiggle or purr.
  5. Go for a walk: Get your loved ones and friends involved! Take your pet on a long walk around the neighborhood, or a short one if your dog is older and less active.
  6. Take a class: Dogs love to learn new things! Enroll your dog in a dock jumping class or an obstacle course.
  7. Buy a new toy: Take your dog to the pet store with you and let them pick out a new toy. If your pet can’t make the trip, they will still love a new toy, a bit of catnip, or a new bone to chew on.

If you don’t have a pet, think about visiting a local shelter. You can donate blankets, toys, food or treats for the pets who are searching for their forever homes. Maybe while you’re there you’ll adopt your new best friend—which is one of the joys of National Pet Day, after all.

How to Freshen Up Towels

TowelsWe hope you’re enjoying the first blush of spring at your beautiful apartment in Suwanee, GA. Sometimes, towels get overlooked in spring cleaning, and yet nothing says “fresh” like fluffy, clean towels. Get the look with these tips.

A Towel Bar is One of the Best Inventions Ever

Heaps and hooks retain moisture. Towels dry quickly and stay fresh when hung over a bar and allowed their own personal space.

What’s the optimal frequency for washing and drying a towel you use daily? Every three days. Regular washing will actually extend your towels’ working lives.

A Splash of Vinegar in the Wash is a Sweet-Smelling Fabric Softener

Try it when washing towels and other linens. Vinegar banishes bacteria and freshens laundry naturally. You don’t need a lot.

Try a Fresh Look for Your Hand Towels

A whimsical fold will spruce up your bathroom. And you can accessorize with April blooms to add scent and color. Try the pocket and fan shown here. It’s easy and fast.

You’re folding an ample rim along the bottom of your hand towel, then folding the towel into thirds lengthwise before folding it again, in half, to hang it. This makes a bottom pocket that faces you. Then, you’ll fold a washcloth fan-style to tuck in the pocket for a touch of elegance.

Create a Bathroom Bouquet in a Basket

Pamper yourself with a spa-style basket of bath towels. As this video clip demonstrates, you’ll start off with a bath towel folded once, widthwise. For a large towel, you’ll fold it once again. Then you’ll do a tight roll-up of the towel, and it’s ready to place in a welcoming basket. Mix and match.

Your bouquet in a basket takes just a few minutes to put together. In fact, it takes no more of your time than simply folding linens.

Journal and Mug

Perfecting Your Morning Routine

Journal and MugThe way that you spend your morning before heading into work can have a big impact on how productive your day ends up being. Making certain activities part of your morning routine can help boost your productivity while you’re at work later on. To benefit the most from this, plan on doing the following morning activities.

Make Your Bed

Making your bed gets your day off to a good start while also giving you an easy way to feel productive first thing in the morning. Take time to get your bed in order before moving onto other morning activities.

Write in a Journal

Plan on spending about five minutes writing down your thoughts in a journal. This can help you stay focused while also providing you with a chance to think about how you’re feeling or how you’re hoping your day will go.

Meditation has been known to have a number of benefits, including clearer thinking and reduced stress. Aim to meditate for about 20 minutes or so each morning, which will help you feel calm and centered. If you don’t usually meditate, keep in mind that it will take some time to get used to doing so.

Make Tea

Coffee might fill you with energy, but tea can provide you with a chance to sit quietly and relax before heading into a busy day. Make yourself a cup of tea to have with your breakfast.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day for good reason. It provides your body and mind with the energy they need to be productive. Have a breakfast that offers fiber and protein, such as oatmeal made with milk or whole wheat toast with peanut butter, for an energy boost.

Do a Workout

Exercise for at least 20 minutes in the morning before you get ready for the day. Doing a morning workout provides your body with energy and releases endorphins to help you maintain a good mood throughout the day.

Our community features a fitness center with cardio and weight training so you can make workouts part of your morning routine. Please contact us for more information about our apartments in Suwanee, GA, including amenities and floor plans.

St. Patrick's Day

4 Treats & DIYs for Saint Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick's DayWith St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner on March 17, you might be thinking about how you can make the most of the holiday. Whether you’ll be celebrating with just the family or you plan to get together with a group of friends in your Suwanee apartments, we have some great ideas for treats and DIYs for the big day.

Use a “Pot of Gold” for Snacks and Treats

You can buy metallic gold color baking cups instead of the standard cupcake cups to create a fun “pot of gold” look for your table. While muffins or cupcakes are the obvious choices for these baking cups, you can also use them to hold candy. One fun idea: foil-wrapped chocolate coins in the gold baking cups — the perfect way to represent a leprechaun’s treasure!

Create Lucky Charms Treats

Try a variant on Rice Krispie treats for an on-theme treat for St. Paddy’s day. You’ll need:

  • 4 cups of Lucky Charms cereal
  • 7 ounces of marshmallows
  •  2 tablespoons of butter

Combine the marshmallows and butter in a bowl. Cook in the microwave for two minutes at regular power. Remove the bowl from the microwave, mix well, then microwave for one more minute. Remove and then add the Lucky Charms. Spread the mixture in a greased pan and refrigerate until ready to eat.

Make the Perfect Vase

If you have some mason jars, you’ve got the start of a perfect vase. Use puff paint to write on the jars with messages like “Lucky” — or even outline a shamrock. Allow the puff paint to dry and then spray paint the whole jar in a brilliant green color. Add spring flowers for the perfect table display.

Create Celebratory Drinks in Green

For the adults celebrating with you this year, create a special champagne cocktail. All you need to do is add a dash of Midori liqueur to each glass of champagne for a brilliant green color. Don’t forget to buy green Kool-Aid drink mix for the kids!

Cleaning With a Sponge

Staying Organized During Spring Cleaning

Cleaning With a SpongeMarch 20 is the first day of spring. Many of us usher in the season by deep-cleaning our homes from top to bottom. With all the tasks that need to be done, spring cleaning can seem overwhelming. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be. Planning ahead of time what you want to tackle can make the project a lot less stressful. Consider these tips to help you stay on top of your spring cleaning.

Come Up With a Plan

Decide how much time you can devote to cleaning. Can you finish it in one day, one weekend or several days? Be realistic; you don’t want the endeavor to be so all-consuming that you don’t have time for anything else.

As an extra incentive, think of a way to hold yourself accountable so you don’t procrastinate.  For instance, invite your friends over for a spring-themed party. That way, you’ll have to get your work done in time to welcome your guests to a sparkling clean home.

Create a List

Once you have a general idea of what you need to accomplish, you can nail down the details. Make a list of specific tasks, and what cleaning supplies you will need for each one. It’s also a good idea to come up with a schedule. If your spring cleaning is a multi-day project, decide what tasks to complete each day. Remember to allot some time to relax and regroup between chores.

Set a Timer

To help you stay focused, set a timer and get to work. Do your best to limit distractions. Put your phone on silent in another room if you have to.When the timer goes off, reward yourself with a break.

Have a Back-Up Plan

If you can’t get everything done, or some tasks are just too complicated, it’s time to call in reinforcements. Outsourcing the work– to trusted friends or a cleaning service–frees you to focus on the most important items on your to-do list.

When you’re in need of a break from spring cleaning, residents of our Suwanee apartments can take a dip in our resort-style pool or relax on the sundeck. Give us a call to learn about our available floor plans and amenities.

Cleaning Spray Bottle

How to Go Green for Spring

Cleaning Spray BottleSpring is a “green” time of the year. Soon, Mother Nature will be dazzling everyone with her handiwork, greening up dull lawns and dressing her trees in new finery. Spring is also the perfect time to think of ways to help Mother Nature out by being “green” — as in eco-friendly. Humans do a lot of damage to this planet, so every little thing you can do is a step in the right direction. Here are a few suggestions on ways that you can help out Mother Nature.

Choose Natural Products

Spring is the stereotypical time for refreshing and cleaning your home. Unfortunately, many of the products that are used in the process of spring cleaning can be harsh and very harmful to the environment. This year, it’s time to be intentional about your choices of cleaning products. That means looking for ones that are eco-friendly or even making your own. For example, you can create a window cleaning solution by filling a spray bottle with 50 percent distilled vinegar and 50 percent tap water.

Change Your Bulbs in Lamps

If you’re still using incandescent light bulbs, make sure to replace them with energy-efficient CFLs or LEDs. These bulbs typically use 25 to 80 percent less energy and can also last 3 to 25 times longer than incandescents.

Plant a Garden

Help the environment by planting a garden. Plants help reduce carbon dioxide in the air, while also giving out oxygen. They also bring beauty to your home and — if you plant vegetables — give you tasty, organic treats for your dinner table. And you don’t need a large plot of land to have a garden — a patio or balcony can support a vertical garden or other potted plants.

Are you searching for an apartment that offers a lot of the amenities you need so that you won’t have to drive from one place to another, polluting the air? Then check out our apartments in Suwanee. In our community, you’ll find a fitness center, a resort-style pool, and a lighted tennis court so you won’t have to use your car to get to a gym. There is also The Fresh Market within easy walking distance, as well. Call us to learn more.

Dog Eating Treat

5 Ways to Pamper Your Pets

Dog Eating TreatWhether you have a dog or cat, you can celebrate National Love Your Pet Day on Tuesday, February 20. It’s a great time to show some extra special appreciation and attention for your pet.

Here are 5 Ways You can Pamper Your Pet

1. Prepare or Buy Them a Special Treat

For example, you can make peanut butter and banana dog biscuits, or cookies for your cat. To find recipes, check out and other cooking sites. If baking isn’t your specialty, you can find treats at your favorite pet store or get them online.

2. Treat Your Pet to a Spa Day

You can take your pet to a salon or have a mobile pet groomer come to your home. Not only will your pet look good, it’s also a great way to help keep them healthy since most dogs should have a bath once a month for good hygiene.

3. Have Regular Checkups With the Vet

While this may seem like it’s not pampering them, by keeping up with shots and other care, you can ensure your pet has a healthy and long life. And that’s truly one of the best ways to spoil your pet!

4. Get a Comfortable Bed

Since cats and dogs spend a lot of time sleeping, a nice, comfy bed will help them get some snooze time. Your pet will get better sleep and feel more refreshed when they have a quality pet bed. It’s money well spent and the benefits are great.

5. Spend Time With Your Pet

Giving your dog or cat attention on this day, or any other time, is the best gift you can give them. Try to set aside one-on-one time each day, whether it’s going for a walk, grooming, napping or playing with them.

Mardi Gras

Recipes to Celebrate Mardi Gras

Mardi GrasNew Orleans may be famous for Mardi Gras, but people in Suwanee know that no one can out-cook a Georgia chef. With Mardi Gras on February 13, here are some Southern-style recipes we hope our community members will enjoy.

Crab Cake Poppers and Dip

Mardi Gras is a party and finger foods rule. These mini crab cakes will keep you charged up as the festivities rolls along.

Poppers Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of soft cream cheese
  • 2 ½ tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1 extra-large egg
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pound of crab meat (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup of shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped chives
  • 2 finely diced garlic cloves
  • 1 ½ cups of bread crumbs
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Vegetable Oil

Ingredients for the Dip

  • ½ cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 lemon (additional)
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay

How to Prepare

For the poppers, mix mayo, Old Bay, cream cheese, egg, a dash of Worcestershire sauce and squeeze juice from one lemon. Mix thoroughly in a large bowl and then stir in crab, garlic, chives, 3/4 cup of bread crumbs, mozzarella and a dash of salt and pepper. Mold into 1-inch balls and coat with the rest of the bread crumbs. Place in freezer for 30 minutes.

Heat 1/2-inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Drop in poppers and fry until golden brown all around. You will need tongs to turn them. Place on paper towels to absorb oil.

Whisk the dip ingredients in a bowl and squeeze half of a lemon into the mixture. Serve warm and dip thoroughly.

Fresh Cajun Shrimp Dip

Georgia has a rich shrimping tradition and they make a perfect finger food for Mardi Gras. This Cajun-style recipe can help Suwanee feel like the Big Easy for a night.

  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • ¼ of a finely chopped onion
  • 1 red pepper chopped fine
  • 1 pound of shrimp, each cut in small sizes
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 ounces of soft cream cheese
  • ¼ cup of sour cream
  • ¾ cup of shredded mozzarella
  • ¼ cup of shredded Parmesan
  • ¼ cup of chopped chives

How to Prepare

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a skillet pan on medium heat. Mix in red pepper and onion and cook 5 minutes. Move cooked vegetables to one side of the pan and add shrimp and garlic. When shrimp turns pink, stir together with vegetables in skillet and begin adding Cajun seasoning and Worcestershire sauce. Squeeze lemon into skillet as well. After removing skillet from the stove, fold in all the other ingredients beginning with the cheeses. Serve with favorite crackers or vegetables.
