Participate in the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot

Woman RunningStaying active during the Thanksgiving holiday season is more important than ever due to all the great foods available at this time. Unfortunately, working dedicated fitness activities into your day can be a challenge without assistance. The organizers for the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot know these difficulties well, which is one reason why they set up this fun event on November 23. If you want to stay active, grab your running shoes and dress up to attend this event near our Suwanee apartments.

Sign Up and Get Your Gear

You will need to sign up for the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot on your own or by joining a team. If you had competed in any other races by these organizers in the past year, your signup fee will be waived. Otherwise, it will cost you just $17 to participate in the 5K, 10K, 15K or half marathon. You do not have to dress up in a festive Thanksgiving costume, but it is encouraged. You should at least dress in light layers, wear a great pair of running shoes and bring a water bottle.

Arrive Early and Check-In

On the day of the event, don’t forget to leave our apartments in Suwanee in time to arrive at Johns Creek (3950 Johns Creek Court) by 8 a.m. When you get to the event, check in with the organizers to pay the registration fee and receive your number. Head over to the group area for your race type and wait for the signal to start the race.

Remember to Stay Hydrated

Throughout the event, make sure to sip on your water to stay hydrated. The event organizers have medics on hand to help out if you start to feel unwell. If you watch your pace and drink plenty of water along the way, you will likely finish with ease. After the races, you can attend the awards ceremony to receive a participant’s medal and a prize if you finished in the top three.

After completing the race, consider if you would like to upgrade your home in the near future. If so, contact our team at The Pointe at Suwanee Station by calling (866) 682-3177 to learn more about our apartments in Suwanee.

crafting a fall cocktail

3 Fall Cocktails to Craft

ingredients to a fall cocktail

As the weather starts to chill in beautiful Suwanee, GA, you’ll find that everything else begins to warm up. From layers of knitted sweaters to steamy cups of coffee, there are so many ways to get cozy during this season. Hosting a little get-together at your apartment? Here are a few ways to stay just as warm with a fall-inspired craft cocktail!

Hot Toddy

Let’s start with something simple. If you haven’t heard of a Hot Toddy before, you’ll love the little effort involved in this three—or four if you’re feeling daring—ingredient drink. All this takes is boiling the hot water, or tea, and adding in the rest of the ingredients. Then, it’s ready to be served!

What you’ll need…
• 3 oz. of whiskey or rum
• 3 tbsp of pure honey
• Juice from 1 whole lemon (optional)
• 3 cups hot water or hot tea

Double Dirty Chai

You’ve heard of a dirty chai, right? This party favorite combines fall cheer with a little bit of fun! Again, add it all into a saucepan, then serve in mugs. For a deeper spice, we suggest either adding another tea bag or sprinkling in some nutmeg.

What you’ll need…
• 3 oz. of any cream-based liqueur
• 2 cups of chai tea (using 2 cups of water and 3 tea bags)
• 3 oz. of espresso (optional)
• ¾ cup milk or cream
• 1 tsp cinnamon

Hot Mulled Wine

Some people like to save the hot mulled wines and cider recipes for the holidays, but we prefer to bring those seasonal spices in even earlier! After all, there’s no harm in practicing your brewmaster skills a little early.

What you’ll need…
• ½ bottle of red wine
• 4 orange rounds
• 2 cinnamon sticks
• 2 star anises
• 2 whole cloves
• ⅛ cup honey

This recipe takes a little more than a simple stir, but it’s still as easy as the rest! Add these ingredients into a saucepan and allow the ingredients to simmer, not boil, for 15-30 minutes. Allow it to cool for 3-5 minutes, then serve it warm.

Now give these recipes a try, have a little taste test and choose your favorite! We won’t judge if you plan on serving all three at your next shindig. These recipes are set to serve a party of three, so add on ingredients according to the length of your guest list.

New to town? Our community’s location is conveniently close to The Fresh Market, where you can find all of the above ingredients!

With Halloween right around the corner, now’s a great time to pamper your favorite furry pal with some spooky themed dog treats. These drool-worthy desserts are all homemade but look like they came from an expensive doggy bakery. Your pup will feel like royalty!

1. Apple Crunch Pupcakes

These autumnal apple pupcakes (or cupcakes) are made with chopped apples, honey, eggs, vanilla extract, and applesauce. Make sure to cover these in a sweet drizzle to make the treats Instagram-worthy!

2. Tropical Chicken Pops

With their white-and-orange color scheme, these tropical chicken pops are totally Halloween-inspired. Since the warmer weather is stubbornly sticking around, your dog will adore eating these frosty popsicles. To make them, you’ll need water, honey, cooked chicken breast, lemon, a banana, oranges, and popsicle sticks. That’s a lot of fun flavors for dogs!

3. Pumpkin Froyo Bites

Humans aren’t the only ones who go crazy for pumpkin this time of year. Let your dog get a taste of the season with pumpkin froyo bites. These call for only three ingredients: water, canned pumpkin puree, and plain frozen yogurt. Use pumpkin-shaped molds for the froyo to get you and your dog in the Halloween spirit.

4. Ice Cream Cloud Nine

Dogs can enjoy ice cream every now and then, but it’s better that you make it yourself. This way, you can know for sure that the ingredients used are safe for your four-legged friend. The Ice Cream Cloud Nine recipe includes honey, plain yogurt, peanut butter, and a banana. If you really want to treat your dog, you can toss in toasted sesame seeds, Rice Krispies, bacon, honey, or applesauce.

To go ultra Halloween with your dog’s ice cream, cut some apple slices or mix in pumpkin puree in place of the banana.

Eco-Friendly Tips to Adopt in Your Apartment

The Pointe at Suwanee Station BathroomMany sustainable living tips you read are geared towards homeowners, but there are plenty of ways to live green while living in an apartment. If you’re looking for ways to be eco-friendly in our Suwanee apartments, we have listed green practices that will enable you to do your part in protecting Mother Earth. Many of these practices not only help save the planet but can also save you money.

Consume Less Energy

Cutting down on energy usage in your apartment is as easy as switching off lights when you leave a room and unplugging your computer and other devices when they’re not in use.

Conserve Water

Taking shorter showers is the quickest way to conserve water — Earth’s most precious resource. Other easy ways to cut water usage include running your dishwasher and/or washing machine only when they’re fully loaded.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

You hear these three words often because they’re important ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Recycling lessens your demand on natural resources. Reduce your impact further by donating unwanted items to charity, instead of sending them to the landfill. Consider buying gently used clothes, furniture, etc. at thrift stores, instead of buying new. This not only reuses items, but it also saves you money and the money you spend goes to a worthy cause.

Go Natural

Use natural cleaning products, instead of products with harsh chemicals that harm the environment. There are tons of DIY cleaning product recipes online you can make with common household ingredients. Always avoid aerosol products that are harmful to the ozone layer.

Encourage Greener Living

One great thing about living in a friendly Suwanee, Georgia apartment community is having kind neighbors to help you in your eco-friendly pursuits. Start a recycling program with fellow residents, conserve fuel by carpooling and encourage exercising onsite, instead of driving to a gym or other recreational facility.

The Pointe at Suwanee Station is centrally located, so you’re close to everyday amenities which saves fuel. Our apartment community also offers an onsite fitness center, theater room & lounge, lighted tennis court and swimming pool, plus biking and walking trails. This puts various exercise and entertainment options right outside your door. Call us at (866) 682-3177 to schedule a tour of your new home today!

Orange Pumpkins

How to Celebrate the Autumnal Equinox

Orange PumpkinsThe autumnal equinox is coming up on September 22, and it’s an excellent way to get into the autumn spirit. The equinox gets its name because we get about 12 hours of sun and 12 hours of darkness before the days start their slow descent into winter. Whether you choose to celebrate fall or not, everyone is used to the traditions of the new season. Pools close, kids go back to school, and leaves start to fall. Welcoming the change with open arms helps you leave summer in the past.

Host a Themed Brunch

An autumn-themed brunch in our Suwanee apartments is not only fun and delicious, it’s one of the best possible traditions to start for you and your friends. Serve up fall favorites like butternut squash soup, apple cider, or toasted pumpkin seeds. Ask people to bring their favorite themed dishes, and decorate your table with a few scattered leaves or a bouquet of autumn wildflowers (e.g., dahlias or chrysanthemums).

Decorate Your Apartment

Most people buy decorations for Halloween or Christmas, but there’s no reason why you can’t be just as festive for the equinox. The solstice and the equinox are our ways of marking the seasons, so they are very special days for many people — even if they’re not commercially celebrated by the greeting card companies. Scarecrows, pumpkins, and spiced candles are just a few items you can buy to give your living room or kitchen a little bit of flair on September 22.

Try Mulling Your Own Cider

Apple cider on its own, either hot or cold, is always going to be a satisfying choice. But mulling your own cider is an excellent way to elevate the drink to the next level. With the help of cinnamon, cloves, oranges, and lemons, you’ll get to see another dimension of this popular drink. Try having it with some popcorn or a grilled cheese to bring out the flavors of your favorite salty, satisfying foods.

Our apartments in Suwanee loves all the seasons for different reasons, and we want our residents to feel the same way. We want to celebrate all of the wonderful things in life as much as you do. Give us a call today to find out more about our availability.

The Love Rolls Run/Walk Race Festival is Back

Woman Running in ParkIf you’ve been itching to get outside and do some physical activity, you’ll be happy to know that the Love Rolls Walk/Festival has returned! This event starts with a 5K run/walk race that offers awards in many categories. Right after the physical activity ends, you’ll get to unwind with a family fun movie night and other festivities.

The Unique Charity Behind This Event

This Love Rolls event is unique due, in part, to the organization behind it. The “rolls” in question are toilet paper rolls, which are given to homeless people in the Atlanta area. The race will raise funds to buy more toilet paper to provide for the homeless.

Event Details

For residents of Suwanee apartments, the event is a good chance to have active fun while benefiting one of the area’s most unique charities. The race/walk/run event has prizes for categories including overall men’s and women’s winners for master, grandmaster, and senior master and the top three winners in each 5-year age groups (10 & under through 75+).

Everyone who participates will also get a race t-shirt on race day, but t-shirts are only guaranteed to those who register before August 20. People who can’t make it out to the event on race day may also participate “virtually” which also comes with a t-shirt.

Race Day is on Saturday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Suwanee Town Center Park (330 Town Center Ave). The evening starting time will help participants avoid the worst of the Georgia heat while still leaving room for the movie at the end.

The cost of registration is $25 per person 17 & older. Those 16 and under can partake for just $20. The “virtual race,” in which participants race when and where they can, also costs $25.

While the race and movie get top billing at this event, it has several other activities that help it live up to the “Festival” part of the event. There are door prizes & drawings, vendors, games, food trucks and more that will be waiting for participants.

Once you’re done with the race, movie and all other fun activities, head on home to some of our great  apartments in Suwanee, GA. Just stop by our office to see our available floor plans.
